An award-winning Director, Chris Strikes was accepted into the 2019 HotDocs Accelerator Fellowship. He was one of only six recipients of HotDocs’ first CrossCurrents Canada Fund, with his first feature documentary BECOMING A QUEEN. BECOMING A QUEEN screened in five festivals throughout four different countries and won Best Feature Film at the 2021 CaribbeanTales International Film Festival, the Audience Choice Award for Best International Feature Film at the 2021 Baltimore International Black Film Festival and was nominated for Best Picture Editing for Documentary in the 2021 DGC Awards. Chris also wrote, directed and co-produced the hit CBC ShortDoc PATTY vs. PATTY, released in 2022, which revisits the 1985 “Patty Wars” in Toronto when Canadian federal food inspectors threatened Jamaican patty sellers with hefty fines if they did not change the name of the world renown snack item. Whether unscripted or scripted, Chris Strikes possesses a unique availability and approach to let subjects and actors "play" on camera and shine through the screen.
