Gloria Kim is an Asian-Canadian, queer, female filmmaker whose mandate is to create work that pushes the envelope and tells impactful and exciting stories of those on the fringes. Her greatest strength is character, and she knows how to draw out amazing performances. Her determination drives her ability to bring productions together, no matter the budget level. She has been recently nominated for three Canadian Screen Awards for Best Direction for Heartland (CBC), Left For Dead: The Ashley Reeves Story (Lifetime) and It's My Party (TVO). She has directed multiple episodes for Gangnam Project (CBC,BBC), Murdoch Mysteries, Heartland (CBC, Netflix) and Coroner (CBC, CW), as well as multiple episodes of television for Sinking Ship, Fifth Ground, Riverbanks, and BGM. Her first feature, QUEEN OF THE MORNING CALM, which she directed, wrote and produced won the William F. White Reel Canadian Indie, the DGC Ontario Best Director Award, Special Jury Best Breakthrough Performance Award at the Canadian Film Festival; Best Director Award at CineFAM; the Best Feature Award at Women’s International Film Festival and the Bronze Lens Festival. Her next feature, The Banquet (Hawkeye Pictures) is going to camera this year and received the CFC/Netflix Accelerator and support from Telefilm and Ontario Creates. She is currently in the deveopment writing room for K-Rez for Shaftesbury and Red Cloud Productions: her project Hidden Ridge was shortlisted for the Canadian-Asian Co-Production Accelerator from the Racial Equity Screen Offfice: she and creator Samora Smallwood have received development funding for their thriller series, GONE from the Canada Council Creation Accelerator. Gloria was recently part of the BIPOC Showrunner Bootcamp and is in the Netflix-Banff Diversity of Voices Initiative.
