Nik Sexton is an award-winning writer and director from St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. His first short film, How to Be Deadly, was selected for both the 2012 TIFF Festival and the Cannes Short Film Corner. The success of the short film paved the way for production and funding of a Canadian feature film of the same title.
In 2014, the feature-length How to Be Deadly premiered in theaters across Canada as part of a special release tour in partnership with Cineplex Canada. The film earned critical acclaim, winning “Best Feature Film” at the 2014 Canadian Comedy Awards and the Audience Choice Award at the 2014 Atlantic International Film Festival (AIFF).
In 2024, Sexton released Skeet, a feature film uniquely filmed over seven years to authentically capture its story and character evolution. The film received widespread recognition, being one of only two Canadian features selected for TIFF's Industry Selects Program. It also earned multiple awards, including Best Cinematography and Best Actor at the Atlantic Film Festival and the Yellowstone International Film Festival, as well as the Audience Choice Award at the Buffalo International Film Festival.
Sexton has written, directed, and produced TV shows for major platforms including Discovery, VICE, Bell, and CBC. He is currently filming a TV comedy series.
