Ramin Mohseni

Ramin Mohseni is an international award-winning film director, writer and producer with more than three decades experience in the film and television industry in Iran and Canada. 

He is known for his critically acclaimed poetic feature film FROM AFAR [Az Dourdast] (2006) which was an official selection in international film festivals in Canada, Iran, USA, India and Mexico and has been a Jaguar Warrior award winner for Best Film at 2007 Acapulco International Film Festival in Mexico (FICA) also a Crystal Simorgh award nominee for Best Debut Feature Film in 2006 Fajr International Film Festival as well as Best Art Direction nomination at the Iranian Cinema Festival in Tehran.

A series of seven episodes historical feature-length documentaries called AZERBAIJAN (2012) was one of Ramin’s latest works in Iran which was on air in fall 2014 in Iran and in 2016 in Canada. In the early years of his filmmaking career, Ramin has written and directed serious docu-drama short films such as ‘Separation’ (1986) also an award-winning anti-war drama ‘The Visit’ (1988). He has also written, directed and produced studio documentaries such as ‘Imaginary Painting’ [Khialisazi] (1996) and indie feature length cultural and social docu-fiction films like ‘Self-Expression’ (2001) and ‘Iranian Lottery’ (2002). 

Ramin is also the creator, producer and director of several nationally and globally broadcast successful and popular documentary magazine shows about cinema and history of film like ‘A Season for Cinema’ (1998), ‘Premier Cinema’ (1999-2001) and IRANIAN CINEMA (2002-2006). Most of Ramin's works have been officially selected and participated in various national and international film and television festivals that honored him for Best Film awards and nominations for Best Documentary, Best Picture Editing, Best Art Direction and Best Documentary TV Series.

Scholastically, Ramin Mohseni holds a Masters Degree in Professional Screenwriting (Filmmaking Training Center, Tehran 1996) and a B.S. Degree in Engineering with a thesis project dedicated to Computer Aided Film Production Planning (Iran University of Science & Technology, 1990). He also completed the Young Film Production School in 1985. 

Ramin Mohseni is founder and executive producer at B.C. production company Azersam Film & Media Inc. where he is actively involved in their various productions. ARIA TV weekly magazine show was on air across Canada on OMNI (BC, Alberta, Ontario) also broadcast on Shaw Multicultural channel from 2014 to 2019. ‘Saida’ (2018) was an award nominee for best national Canadian film award at 2019 UWpg Film Festival, 'Poplife' (2019) was an official selection at 2020 Vancouver Short Film Festival and ‘Persian Blue’ was officially screened at the Whistler Film Festival, Chagrin Documentary Film Festival in USA and 2021 Venice Intercultural Film Festival in Italy. 

Ramin has just completed production of a new docufiction feature film PERSIA and I (2023) as a writer-producer and he is editing his own experimental feature film EXILE (2024) which was shot in France, Iran and Canada. Ramin’s next feature film (drama) as a writer-director is AN ETERNAL TRAVELLER which will be a British Columbia domestic production.
