Steve J. Adams is a Canadian LGBTQIA+ director renowned for his visually stunning and emotionally raw storytelling, showcasing the lives and experiences of real people. He co-directs with Sean Horlor.
Their latest feature documentary, Satan Wants You, was one of the most buzzed-about titles at SXSW 2023, with Variety hailing it as "this year's scariest documentary." The film received a 95% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and won major awards, including the Audience Award for Best Documentary at Fantasia International Film Festival and voted Best Canadian Documentary by the Vancouver Critics Circle. Satan Wants You dives into the origins of the global Satanic Panic of the 1980s and '90s, offering a compelling look at moral hysteria.
Steve and Sean’s debut feature-length documentary, Someone Like Me—produced by the National Film Board of Canada—followed the year-long journey of ten strangers supporting the resettlement of an LGBTQ refugee from Uganda. This emotionally charged film earned international acclaim and won the Roger’s Audience Award at Toronto’s Hot Docs in 2021.
Steve has co-directed and produced over 20 award-winning projects, including The Day Don Died (Palm Springs ShortFest 2019). His journey into feature filmmaking began with an appearance on OUTtv’s Hot Pink Shorts in 2012.
