Kimani Ray Smith is an award-winning director and filmmaker with over 30 years in the film and television industry. Known for his bold visual style and emotionally charged storytelling, Kimani has collaborated on major studio productions including I, Robot, Salt, The A-Team, Twilight, Total Recall, and Deadpool.
A three-time Leo Award winner with twenty-one nominations, Kimani has established himself as a creative force behind the camera—blending genre, action, and character-driven narratives into compelling cinematic experiences. His directing work spans acclaimed shorts like Suffer and Self Projections to his first feature Evil Feed, which premiered at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival, as well as direction on series/films such as Van Helsing, Motherland: Fort Salem, Two Sentence Horror Stories, Horror Noir, Holidazed and The Painter.
Rooted in a powerful personal backstory, Kimani’s artistic vision is shaped by his diverse heritage—born to a Black Panther father and a Cherokee-Irish novelist mother—and his unconventional upbringing from the inner-city streets of Detroit to living in a tee-pee on the deserts of Arizona to Canada’s Arctic North. Drawing deeply from his multicultural roots and life experiences, Kimani developed a lifelong passion and dedication for exploring identity, resilience, and the human spirit through visually dynamic, emotionally grounded storytelling.
