SOPHIE JARVIS is a Swiss-Canadian writer and director whose first job in film was reading fan mail for THE L WORD. Her feature debut UNTIL BRANCHES BEND premiered at TIFF in 2022, and went on to play SXSW and Locarno, winning "Best BC Film" at VIFF. It was nominated for Best Screenplay and Best VFX at the Canadian Screen Awards in 2023.
Jarvis’ work is known for its unique settings and unnerving sense of tone. She has a background as an award-winning production designer (THE BODY REMEMBERS WHEN THE WORLD BROKE OPEN, 2019), an experience that deeply informs her practice as a filmmaker. It also led to a foray in stop motion animation with the NFB (ZEB'S SPIDER, 2022) and a career directing commercials. These experiences contribute to an intensive pre-visualization process that lays the foundation for visually rich scenes and a playful environment where performance can shine. Jarvis is based in Vancouver, Canada.
